Whether you're ready or not fall fashion has started to bear its threads and come knocking on our doors, in the form of utility jackets, suede, and fringe. It is hard not to get excited by all the newness that is popping up online, but if there’s one silver lining to my Tik Tok addiction it's my shift in the mindset of trends. The current discourse online highlights the exhaustion of trends. Thanks to social media we have reached a new point in the trend cycle - disillusion. My friend Liz hits the nail on the head in her video, the “trends” emerging online right now are not trends at all. They are as simple as dressing for the season in fabrics and colors that ring true to the colder weather's DNA.
With all that being said I am not immune to the excitement around what’s new and what’s to come with a new season. I have, however, been making a conscious effort to not feed into these TikTok “trend predictions” surrounding singular must-have pieces. I’m instead simply getting excited about those Fall items I already own and the fabrications, patterns, and colors we see reemerge year after year. I am also focusing on the common themes of styling that I am seeing that I can lean on my current closet to play into. I find that if I already own it, it lends to my personal style better and I am able to play into a “trend” I am seeing in a unique way that is true to me. That being said I am not morally perfect and will likely be purchasing new pieces for Fall, those pieces though are items that, as cheesy as it sounds, truly spark joy and can live on in my wardrobe and play well with others.
Below is a round-up of the current things I am seeing that are sparking joy and getting me excited to revel in my fall clothes.
